Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment visits TOMRA in China

On June 6, 2024, Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen along with his team, Norwegian Consul General in Guangzhou Hege Araldsen, representatives from the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing and Innovation Norway, business representatives from Norwegian companies in China such as Cambi, Yara, DSD, and Herfo Group, visited TOMRA China's headquarters in Xiamen.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Norway. At this historical moment, Minister Andreas led a delegation to visit China to further promote and deepen cooperation in green transition, marine ecosystem protection, and the construction of zero waste cities.

Upon arriving in China, the delegation immediately visited TOMRA. As a leading global company in sensor-based sorting from Norway, TOMRA has been deeply involved in the Chinese market for 14 years, actively contributing to the development of the circular economy in China. It has established extensive cooperation with recycling industry customers in China and has successful experiences in multiple solid waste management projects.

In the meeting, Norwegian business representatives shared their "China stories" and engaged discussions on international cooperation experiences in green transition. Minister Eriksen expressed his pleasure and pride as Norwegian companies playing a significant role in China's environmental and looked forward to these companies continuing to promote the development of Sino-Norwegian relations, accelerating the promotion of green and low carbon transition, and contributing to the development of the circular economy in both countries.

The delegation then visited TOMRA's test center, where they were briefed on the technological innovations and industry applications of TOMRA, with a focus on the achievements in zero waste city construction in China.

Following the visit to TOMRA, Minister Andreas along with the delegation participated in the "The Partnership in Green Transition" thematic seminar held in Xiamen. The seminar was co-hosted by the Norwegian Consulate General in Guangzhou, the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, and Innovation Norway, and invited representatives from the government, enterprise, and academia. The aim was to deepen the consensus between China and Norway on green transition, broaden the cooperation in climate change and environmental challenges.
