#WeAreTOMRA: Meet Anders, Senior test developer

Meet Anders Norstrand, a passionate software tester at TOMRA since 2022. With a love for electronics, Anders has been pivotal in streamlining software releases. When he’s not enhancing TOMRA’s tech, he’s spending quality time with his family or mastering Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Dive into his journey and see how he’s making a difference at TOMRA.

Quote from Anders, senior test developer at TOMRA

Who are you?

My name is Anders Norstrand, I have a bachelor’s degree in electronics, and I work as a software tester in the Test & Verification department. I’m also responsible for following up and coordinating the release of software to the market. I have been working in TOMRA since 2022.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

My workday is split between working with the software developers, testing new functions and fixes for bugs in the main reverse vending machine software, working on projects like the new multi-feed TOMRA R2 and Basic line machines, and following up our bi-monthly software release schedule.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I have a wife and two kids, aged 7 and 10, who I spend most of my time with. When I’m not spending time with my family, my main hobby is Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which is a martial art that has its roots in judo. It’s been described as the art of folding clothes, but with people still in them. So, if you see me limping around the office or with a black eye, it’s just from a training session.

What’s the most exciting project you have been a part of so far?

The most exciting project I’ve worked on is the process of moving our release schedule from three times per year to six. We had to automate a lot of previously manual tests and find other ways to make the testing more efficient. We’ve also had to get the markets that run the beta tests ready for a much shorter market test time, by moving them into our automated tests, and making communication with the different markets more efficient.

How would you describe the culture at TOMRA?

I would describe TOMRA’s culture as incredibly inclusive. No matter who you are, you are warmly welcomed. It’s a very supportive environment.

What do you like most about working at TOMRA?

TOMRA is a very welcoming company that values its employees. It's also a company that has managed to build a very good company culture with a lot of passionate people. Its willingness to change and improve is also something I’ve not seen in any other company I’ve worked for.
